First of all the USDA has not made it a rule that you have to raise your cages to any height. If your cat was to escape or get out you would than be in violation of not containing your big cat.

There is talk within the USDA that there will be a new requirment coming but as of now they can not write you up for non-compliance unless you have an escape.

It would be a very good idea to start the following to prepare for the new requirements if the rule changes.

• List all of your enclosed cages vs open tops
• How tall the open top cages are and if they have a 45 degree top and how long it is.
• How old each big cat is that is in the cage
• Does it have all four legs and able to climb
• Does it have claws or been declawed
• How big are the holes in your fence openings, such as 6"x6" or 4"x4" and such.

This will make your life much easier to file for a variance to prevent you from having to change every cage.

The Out Reach Program is Moving to Panama!

Part of our mission is to educate, reach out to others and help them become the professionals they want to be. Help us raise $1500.00 toward our teach a vet program. Bringing in a vet from Panama for 2 weeks into the United States so he can learn hands on from other vets and professionals about how to properly care for exotics in his own country. He will than be able to return to Panama and use his knowledge to help others in his country care for Exotic Animals.
